The Battle for AI Chatbot Dominance - Google, Microsoft, and Baidu's Latest Moves

The AI industry is rapidly evolving, and this week has been no exception. The Battle for supremacy between Google, Microsoft, and Baidu in the world of AI chatbots is heating up. In this article, we take a look at the latest developments in the War of the Chatbots.

Google Camp
Google has been making waves in the AI world this week with several major announcements. Firstly, the company has invested $300 million in AI start-up Anthropic, acquiring a 10% stake in the process. As part of the deal, Anthropic is required to buy computing resources from Google Cloud. Anthropic has developed a chatbot named Claude, similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, although it has not yet been released.

Google is also preparing to release its answer to ChatGPT, a competing AI chatbot, in the coming weeks. Despite a drop in earnings in the fourth quarter, Alphabet remains committed to investing in AI technology and has stated it will focus on responsible AI. In addition, Google CEO, Sundar Pichai, announced the company’s plans to allow people to “interact directly” with its language models, including the conversational AI model LaMDA. The first model, LaMDA, is expected to be rolled out in the next few months, although Pichai has mentioned that the company will be cautious and launch AI features gradually with a “deep sense of responsibility”.

Microsoft Camp
Microsoft is also stepping up its game in the world of AI chatbots. The company plans to incorporate a faster version of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, known as GPT-4, into Bing in the near future, in an effort to make the search engine more competitive with Google. The main difference between ChatGPT and GPT-4 is speed, with GPT-4 being quicker in responding to queries and providing more human-like answers. This integration is expected to trigger new competition in the internet search market.

In addition, Microsoft Teams Premium is now available with AI technology from OpenAI’s ChatGPT to automate meeting notes and generate related tasks and actions. The new tool “Intelligent Recap” will transform the way teams hold meetings, webinars, and discussions by reducing the time spent on reviewing meeting minutes and pulling out action points.

Baidu Camp
Baidu, China’s largest internet search engine, is developing a standalone app that would compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The new chatbot will likely be integrated into Baidu’s search engine and provide assistance with professional tasks, such as generating text for its search results. Baidu has already invested billions in AI research, and its existing machine-learning model called Ernie will serve as the foundation for the new chatbot.
